getting healthy

healthy. it's always been a struggle for me. i suffer from diabetes (as of 2010), had a super rough pregnancy, had a broken leg and couldn't walk for almost a year (thanks to poor medical care), i had open heart surgery when i was 2. these are not excuses, i promise. i may have tried to use them as excuses in the past but no more. i deserve a long(er) life. i deserve to see my grandchildren, even great grandchildren. i deserve all this and that was my main hang up. i have never had self-confidence..and worst of all - i'm afraid of failure. along with no self-confidence, i lack self-control badly. but...now that I've recognized my issues, it's time to move forward.

my boys & i joined a gym over the weekend. we get up to 2 hours of child care a day for Jackson so we can work out, take classes, whatever. my plan is to start with a personal trainer - see where i'm at, discuss my game plan, etc. my doctor has already suggested i do low-impact exercise for a while due to my leg & heart condition. i'm planning on spending a LOT of time in the swimming pool. it's great exercise and about as low-impact as you can get. once i get comfortable, i'm going to join a water aerobics class - to get more out of it. of course cardio is very important too...but i'm not sure which cardio approach will be best for me and easiest on my leg. i'm thinking maybe the elliptical - but will ask a professional ;)

as far as the "diet" goes. i'm approaching it way differently than i have in the past. i'm not dieting. i'm going to make better choices. i'm NOT gonna set myself up for failure...getting the right mind set from the start. i've started by cutting out sodas (including diet) - this should be fairly simple for me as i've only recently picked back up on soda drinking...i'm generally an all water kinda girl. next, i'm going to work on actually eating three meals a day instead of spending most of my calories on grazing and eating out of boredom. those are my main focus points right now. get moving, only water, and three meals a day. i can do this. i will do this <3 my blog will now serve as my progress log. i'm so ready!
