so, me and jeff have been doing some research. we were told at the hospital during jackson's last stay there that he had a "depleting immune system" and that his immune system was basically being attacked by unhealthy cells. so, instead of just "accepting" that diagnosis, we decided to research. I, too, suffer from immune system issues. i also have an iron-deficiency disorder called betathalessemia which definitely doesn't help my situation. anyway - we started thinking that maybe if we made some lifestyle changes that it would help. it's kind of like an experiment. starting with going gluten free. we had been told by Jackson's pediatrician a while ago that he may very well have a "gluten sensitivity". he's suffered from chronic constipation since he was a newborn. he's always complaining of abdominal pain. he's always very gassy. all of these symptoms definitely could mean a sensitivity to gluten. sooo...we're gonna try it out for about a month. go completely gluten free. cut it all out of our diets. & we are going to see if there are any improvements in Jackson's symptoms (and mine also...). if there's an improvement, great. if there's not, then we can rule something out. it's worth a try to me. i hear that gluten-free is the new fad these days..that some people just do it because they claim it to be "healthier" - then there are others who have severe allergies/sensitivities to gluten.
i know it's going to be really difficult. Jackson loves his snacks. i'm going to have to do some research and browsing to find some gluten free alternatives so he doesn't feel "deprived". i know it's going to be more expensive, but it will be worth every penny. the good news is that because gluten-free is so widespread these days that products are much easier to find. wish me luck, guys! i'm gonna need it. and any tips are always helpful :)
